Hi, I’m David

Hi, I’m David

I’m a Staffordshire born artist whose subject matter can only be described as eclectic, ranging from urban landscape with particular emphasis on discovering a narrative of new life from time infused decay, to still life and the abstract. Generally I am influenced by shape, texture and colour, together with the juxta positioning of other elements within the composition. At the same time I often see the need to comment on matters that disturb me in the present day.

My general philosophy in the making of art is to push my own boundaries further through research and experimentation, and not being certain at the outset of the final product. I do not set out to faithfully reproduce what is already there, but I try to encompass into the structure something of myself, something personal.

I use my  artistic knowledge to obtain  optimal outcome by appropriating the materiality for each piece of work. My application of paint or other media is not always achieved by conventional means and I experiment continually to discover new processes in mark making.
